Harsh: The humble cheeseburger came about when a sixteen-year-old was experimenting in his father’s sandwich shop. It has been a century since then, and the cheeseburger remains a staple at burger joints all over the world. I suspect it will continue to hold that place for centuries to come.
The beauty of the cheeseburger is that it transcends borders and trends. Purists will say a cheeseburger is simply meat, cheese, a few condiments and toppings, and a soft bun. I am inclined to agree, but these broad definitions leave the door open for a surge of new creations to take center stage.
SocioSpiel: What goes into crafting the perfect cheeseburger? Is it the choice of cheese (sharp cheddar vs. creamy gouda), balance of textures with patties, sauces, and buns?
Harsh: For me, the perfect cheeseburger is about harmony rather than excess. The patty lays the foundation, the bun provides structure, the sauces add brightness, and the cheese is the element that ties everything together. A sharp cheddar can deliver edge, mozzarella offers an indulgent stretch, and blue cheese brings a daring funk. The magic lies in how these flavours play off each other so that every bite feels composed, not chaotic.

Harsh: In India, the cheeseburger is having its own moment. Toppings are evolving too, reflecting local cravings: a kick of heat from jalapeños, a swirl of tandoori mayo, or even a fried egg stacked in for richness. It’s the classic cheeseburger, adapted to a palate that craves spice, comfort, and a touch of drama
