The global stage of spirits innovation has once again spotlighted India, with Balivada Malt de Goa earning the title of “Single Malt Whisky of the Year” at the prestigious USA Spirits Ratings 2025.The competition, known for its focus on quality, value, and packaging appeal, evaluates entries through a 100-point scoring system designed to mirror real-world consumer choices. This year saw strong participation from the USA, Mexico, India, and Canada, with Balivada standing out for its craftsmanship and distinct character.
A World-First Innovation from Goa
Produced by Imperial Distillers and Vintners Pvt Ltd of the Cheers Group, Balivada achieved a Gold Medal and an impressive 93 points, while also securing the award for “Best Spirit by Package”.
What sets Balivada apart is its world-first finishing process in 500-year-old Heritage Feni barrels, an innovation that bridges Goan tradition with global whisky-making techniques.

Cheers Group, valued at around ₹950 crores with over 250 international awards, is expanding its Goa-based distillery into a carbon-neutral facility complete with a visitor experience centre.
